About our Christmas concerts

We love this time of year, but it can be pretty hectic for us parents, right?! So to make life a bit easier, here are some top tips about our Christmas concerts.

  1. All are welcome - families members big and small, those who celebrate Christmas and those that dont.
  2. Our Christmas concerts will be a feast of music that celebrates families coming together and all things wintertime, with a sprinkling of sleigh bells and singalong carols throughout - there'll be something for everybody!
  3. Look out for the specific music and musical instruments at your chosen concert when the programmes are announced in early November.
  4. Fancy dress, frolicking and loud singing encouraged, but please note this is not a carol service, or santa's grotto and we can't guarantee the church will have a tree up yet. **sniff**

About the venue

The Minster Church of St Mary the Virgin stands in St Mary's Butts in the heart of Reading Town Centre - the road is so named because this is where archery was practised in the Middle Ages. The original church was overshadowed by the mighty Reading Abbey, which was founded King Henry I in 1121 and which led to Reading becoming one of the foremost religious and political centres in England. The Abbey was dissolved by King Henry VIII in 1539, during the Reformation; this led to St Mary's regaining its importance, this time as an Anglican Minster church. It was rebuilt between 1550-1555 using materials from the Abbey, and looks pretty much the same today as it did then. Today the church hosts regular services, and has a busy programme of concerts and recitals. Bach to Baby is delighted to bring our Family concert series to this wonderfully historic and beautiful church.
